Which Type of Disc Golfer Are You?

Which Type of Disc Golfer Are You? - Tee Shop USA

Disc golf is one of those sports where you think you’re just chucking a frisbee into a basket, and then suddenly you’re ankle-deep in weeds, inventing new curse words, and questioning all your life choices. The truth is, every course has its cast of characters—the archetypes you’ll inevitably meet (or be). The question is: which one are you?

Let’s break it down.

The Arm

You know this guy. He steps up to the tee box, gives his shoulder a couple of dramatic windmills like he’s warming up for MLB tryouts, and then LAUNCHES that disc into the stratosphere. You can actually hear it whistle. It goes so far, you lose sight of it. It’s majestic. It’s terrifying. It’s… in the wrong fairway.

Being The Arm is a blessing and a curse. Sure, you can flex on your friends with raw power, but accuracy? Let’s just say trees have restraining orders against you.

(I’ll admit it—I’ve had my Arm days. It feels great until I’m hiking two miles sideways to find my disc.)

The Tree Magnet

Every hole, same story: clink. Doesn’t matter if the fairway is wide open. Doesn’t matter if there are three trees on the course total. Somehow, miraculously, magnetically, every shot finds bark.

These players develop a kind of Stockholm Syndrome with trees. “Oh, that oak is basically my doubles partner.” Sure, man. Whatever helps you sleep at night.

The Complainer

This is the player who always has a reason. Too windy. Too humid. Bad disc. Bad vibes. Bad planet alignment. “If I had my OTHER putter, that would’ve gone in.” (Right. Of course it would have.)

The Complainer’s scorecard is basically a Yelp review of the course. Two stars: too many mosquitoes, would not play again.

Pro tip: Complaining does not improve your putt.

The Technician

Every disc golfer needs a friend like this—mostly because you’ll never have to think again. The Technician knows every angle, every release point, every disc weight. They’ll casually drop phrases like “anhyzer flip” and “torque resistance” while you’re still trying to remember which pocket you stuffed your keys in.

The Technician can turn disc golf into a NASA briefing. But hey, if you need a free coach, here they are.

The Philosopher

This person isn’t just throwing plastic—they’re communing with nature. Every shot is a metaphor. Every putt is about life’s deeper meaning. “Missing this basket reminds me that we are all imperfect, yet striving.” Cool story, Socrates, but we’re three over par and out of Gatorade.

(I’ve gone full Philosopher a few times. Especially when I lose a disc in a pond. Staring at the ripples like it’s some profound spiritual lesson… when really, it’s just ten bucks gone.)

The Ace Chaser

This is the gambler of the group. They don’t care about par. They don’t care about safety. They want the highlight reel shot. 300-foot tunnel gap through trees? “I’m running it.” Spoiler: they are not making it.

But every once in a while, lightning strikes. They nail it. And they’ll be insufferable about it until the day they die.

The Chill Vibes Only Player

Flip-flops. Cooler bag. Sunglasses at 7 p.m. This person didn’t come here for competition. They came here to escape life. Every throw is secondary to the vibe. Their score? Who cares. They’re just happy to be outside.

We all secretly envy this person, because while the rest of us are sweating over bogeys, they’re basically on vacation.

So… Which One Are You?

Truth is, most of us are a mix. Some days you’re The Arm, some days you’re The Complainer, and sometimes you’re just The Chill Vibes Guy with a beer in one hand and a putter in the other. That’s the beauty of disc golf—it attracts all types.

If you recognized yourself in one (or several) of these archetypes, congrats—you’re officially part of the tribe. And honestly? That’s half the fun.

So next time you hit the course, ask yourself: are you about to be The Ace Chaser… or just another Tree Magnet waiting to happen?

(For me? Nine times out of ten, I’m The Complainer. But I’ll blame it on the wind, obviously.)
